The Electronic Information Release Office System (eIROS) delivers a streamlined, web-based process to clear information for public release. This paperless processing system allows document authors to upload documents for technical review and notify the appropriate reviewers to open the submission for review. It can be integrated with multiple systems for an entirely electronic review and release process, ensuring documents are properly cleared through Classification, Export Control, Operational Security, Public Relations, Legal, Technology Transfer, and any other organization that may need to see them before they are released. The system also maintains usage statistics and activity metrics to facilitate monitoring and report generation.

The Electronic Derivative Classifier/Reviewing Official (eDC/RO) is a web-based system that provides a secure way to accomplish required classification reviews across multiple DOE sites. The system streamlines the document review process by automating document handling. This paperless processing system provides a mechanism by which document authors upload documents for technical review in a secure, contained environment and notify the appropriate reviewers to open the submission for review. The system also maintains usage statistics and activity metrics to facilitate monitoring, report generation, and accountability.

The nature of CNS’s mission requires it to operate independently of third-party ancillary services. This means we must operate on our own medical facilities, firehouses, communications departments, and routine plant maintenance services, among others. As a result, CNS has developed software to meet these needs, including the Electronic Logistics Management System (ELMS).

Researchers have developed a new software package for calculating 3D photonic crystal structures that is highly efficient.
The software is available for demonstration and ISU is seeking commercialization partners.. Photonic crystals have many potential applications in areas such as optoelectronics. However, while modeling tools are available for facilitating the development of practical photonic crystal technology, existing algorithms suffer from drawbacks that include memory limitations, slow computation speeds and cumbersome user interfaces. To overcome these disadvantages, ISU researchers have developed a new software package for modeling photonic crystal-based structures that is based on planewave-based TMM (transfer matrix method) and an interpolation algorithm, and is integrated with regression methods. This software package has computation times that are much faster than existing TMM, FDTD (finite difference time domain) and RCWA (rigorous coupled-wave analysis) algorithms, has an easy to use interface, and is able to model a wide variety of significant photonic crystal structures, including layer-by-layer “woodpile” structures, metallic complex structures, photonic crystal waveguides, and photonic crystal cavities. In addition, the software package is available in versions appropriate for single CPU computers to super computers. This software may thus have utility for simulating and identifying new structures for photonic crystals with specific characteristics that can be used as platforms for future photonic devices.
Novel wireless sensor system enabling a new breed of smart city research and sensor-driven environmental science
The Waggle research project at Argonne National Laboratory seeks to design, develop, and deploy a novel wireless sensor system, with the aim of enabling a new breed of smart city research and sensor-driven environmental science. The software and hardware designs from the Waggle project are used by the Array of Things project, which is building a smart city and open data with urban sensors in Chicago. The project recently received a $3.1 million grant from the National Science Foundation to support the development and installation of 500 sensor nodes. The nodes will initially measure factors such as barometric pressure, light, carbon monoxide, ambient sound, and temperature. Continued research and development will help create sensors to monitor other urban factors of interest such as flooding, precipitation, wind, and pollutants
